The term “glass ceiling” is a familiar business term. It refers to the invisible barriers to advancement women face in their careers. For women of color, some describe that ceiling as one made of concrete, not glass. So, how do we move the needle for women of color?

In this session, we will explore some of the challenges facing women of color, ways we can address them, and how those solutions can benefit the entire profession.

  • Give examples of the dynamics of power, influence, and bias in the workplace

Kathy Johnson is a forensic accountant and expert witness with over 25 years of accounting experience. She specializes in family law, business valuations and cash flow analysis, civil and criminal litigation support, estate and trust accounting analysis, fraud investigations, economic damages, and merger and acquisition due diligence. She serves as an expert witness and provides litigation support services for law firms for dispute resolutions and other accounting & economic issues.
 
Kathy has held the position of President and CEO, performed forensic accounting services for over one hundred cases, served as an expert witness for court-appointed engagements for civil and criminal cases, and provided litigation support for attorneys and clients seeking an expert witness and financial analysis.

Kathy is also an adjunct university professor. She teaches fraud, forensic accounting, auditing, upper-division accounting, and ethics to graduate and undergraduate students. She also teaches certified professional education (CPE) courses to other CPAs for topics that include family law, business valuations, Moore Marsden calculations, and asset tracing.

Co-founded with her husband, EP was a full-time partnership in both work and life. Although in different professions, their work often intersected around the importance of self-awareness in leadership and navigating conflict within teams. Combining their experiences, backgrounds, and work led to the development of their unique approach to D&I, which she continues to use in her practice today.
