Sales and Use Tax issues are considered indirect tax matters and they're not taught in any accounting classes. And yet states are becoming more and more aggressive in conducting sales and use tax audits on businesses of all sizes. What does a tax professional need to know about being better prepared for a sales and use tax audit? What can a business owner do to better understand their potential 6- and 7-figure exposure and prepare to defend against it? What role does documentation play in audit defense?
Be prepared to enter a world of taxation that rarely gets ventured into as you join a seasoned tax professional—Jack Stewart, CMI and Sr. Manager with Clarus Partners. Jack has been illuminating other professionals on this very topic for over 20 years and has specialized solely in indirect tax issues.

He’s particularly interested in hickory golf which is the art of restoring and playing with hickory shafted golf clubs. Jack’s solutions have impacted refund reviews, audit defenses, taxability matrices, nexus studies, voluntary disclosure negotiations and settlements, representation of clients before various state administrative boards, development of CPE sales and use tax classes as well as impacting state/county taxing regulations.
